For Austin City Limits’ first foray into hip-hop, we’re pleased to showcase Mos Def. The Brooklyn-born rapper and actor has been on the vanguard of the underground hip-hop movement for over a decade, mixing live musicians and sampled beats with rhymes about social consciousness and African-American pride. Joining Mos Def is K’naan, who’s The Troubadour is a genre-crossing album that mixes African music with American hip-hop, and boasts guest stars Mos Def, Chubb Rock, Chali 2una (from Jurassic 5), Adam Levine (from Maroon 5) and Kirk Hammett (from Metallica). Favoring a message that calls for an end to violence and bloodshed over the gangsta talk of mainstream rap, K’naan brings his style and band to the 6A stage

It’s not unusual for Austin City Limits to turn the spotlight on collections of veteran musicians united temporarily for a common purpose. Such is the case for Them Crooked Vultures, a power trio featuring Josh Homme, frontman for Queens of the Stone Age, Dave Grohl, leader of the Foo Fighters (and former drummer for Nirvana), and John Paul Jones, bassist/keyboardist for the mighty Led Zeppelin. Now TCV will kick off its North American tour with an appearance both at the ACL Festival and in Studio 6A. Please join us for a set of brand new, wall-shaking rock & roll.
